Clinton Portis: WR Kelvin Harmon can be Redskins’ No. 1 receiver

The Washington Redskins took major steps towards bolstering their wide receiver depth in the 2019 NFL Draft, selecting both Terry McLaurin and Kelvin Harmon in middle-to-late rounds.

McLaurin — who had a stellar career at Ohio State with fellow Redskins’ draftee Dwayne Haskins — has gotten most of the buzz surrounding Washington’s additions, but some within the organization are warning not to look past Harmon.

Former Redskins’ great Clinton Portis professed his confidence in Harmon, saying that he believes the young WR can be an instant difference-maker in the NFL.

“The people in the building were talking about Kelvin Harmon coming out this year,” Portis said of the North Carolin State 2018 Pro Day on his 26 Minutes podcast. “They were excited about him. Kelvin Harmon has a golden opportunity to come in and be a No. 1 receiver.”

Washington has severely lacked WR depth in the past few seasons, and the departure of Jamison Crowder just highlighted the lack of potency at the position. As it currently stands, the Redskins will look to rely on Paul Richardson Jr., hoping he can get back to the level of production he had in Seattle, and Josh Doctson, who has one more year to prove he’s up to snuff in the NFL.

The addition of two young receivers should help the depth at the very least, and if Portis is to be believed, Washington will have a duo of young playmakers for years to come.
