Clinton Portis slams idea of Landon Collins wearing 21

Count Clinton Portis among those who don’t want to see new Washington Redskins safety Landon Collins wear the No. 21.

Collins has been a fun story since arriving via free agency. He grew up idolizing Sean Taylor and Redskins owner Dan Snyder gifted him with a game-worn, signed Taylor jersey.

Understandably, speculation about Collins being allowed to wear the number on the field popped up.

And Portis is having none of it, per The Athletic: “(expletive) no. I don’t ever want to see nobody else in it. For an organization that don’t retire jerseys or don’t officially retire jerseys, you put that (expletive) in the rafters, you retire it, and you make sure everybody knows, this is irreplaceable.”

It’s not anything personal against Collins, of course. The big-money safety is a big get for the Redskins and should play a big role in helping the team field one of the best defenses in the league.

This sounds more aimed at the Redskins. Snyder made a cool move with the signed jersey — but the 21 should indeed be off limits and boasting an honorary spot in the stadium.
