Clinton Portis praises Vernon Davis for TE’s Week 1 heroics

Washington Redskins tight end Vernon Davis quietly played through tragedy during his teams’s Week 1 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The day before the game, Davis was informed his grandfather had passed away. He played anyway, scoring on an epic early touchdown and finishing with four catches for 59 yards and the score.

Former Redskins running back Clinton Portis had nothing but praise on on Redskins Roundup after the performance, according to Ethan Cadeaux of NBC Sports Washington.

“Really impressive situation from Vernon Davis, you know, because most guys sit this game out. Most guys can’t go on the field and continue after such a devastating situation, especially with family.”

The very human side of football gets lost on outside observers sometimes, so it’s good Portis brought this up when he did.

Davis himself probably isn’t one to clarify on such things, so it’s nice a fan favorite touched on this, if only briefly.
