Climate Strike Edinburgh: Lothians teens to hold 'school strike' protest at Scottish Parliament

Teenagers across Edinburgh and the Lothians will be joining a nation-wide school strike on 25 September to demand more action on the climate crisis.

A socially-distanced protest, organised by Scottish Youth Climate Strike (SYCS), is set to take place outside the Scottish Parliament at 11am on Friday morning.

Before the pandemic, over 40,000 people took to the streets across Scotland on 20 September 2019.

The youth strikers have two main demands for the Scottish Government from Friday's planned action: To kick-start a programme of public green job creation and end public money for fossil fuel developments.

West Lothian campaigner, 16-year-old Dylan Hamilton said: “We have around eight years left of our global carbon budget, to stay below a 1.5°C increase in global temperature from pre-industrial levels.

"That is completely unacceptable and a failure from governments all around the world. We need drastic action and we cannot wait and focus on our education while watching the world burn around us.”
