Climate change report is advanced warning for Scotland that we all must heed

The findings of a key report on in Scotland are nothing short of alarming.

By 2050 summer temperatures are expected to soar by 4C, with the average jumping to 32C.

This projection cannot be met with a glib comment about “taps aff” weather.

Our planet is warming dangerously because of human activity and the full impact will soon be felt here.

Already hotter summers are causing difficulties. Much of our infrastructure is just not built to cope with rising temperatures.

Scotland saw a rise in wildfires, warped train tracks and damaged crops just a few months ago.

We were on the brink of a hosepipe ban due to water shortages.

A 4C increase would be catastrophic.

Climate change is a global problem that ultimately needs a global solution. Governments need to act.

But we must all be mindful this is not a far-away problem.

Scotland has to continues to play its part in tackling climate change and make sure we are prepared to deal with the huge damage that’s already been done.

Poverty trapped

Gordon Brown’s that Scotland is becoming “two nations” is further proof of the damage cause by the Tories’ austerity agenda.

The former Prime Minister claims child poverty is set to reach 70 per cent in some deprived areas and describes the situation as a “full-blown emergency”.

Brown is in no doubt who the main culprits are in this national tragedy.

Since 2010, from coalition to Johnson’s current cabinet of grotesques, the callous Conservatives have abandoned the needy.

Tory welfare changes have harmed the most vulnerable in society.

Not because the government couldn’t afford to do more but because ideologically the hold the poor in contempt.

Brown believes the SNP government in Holyrood could do more but they have done much to mitigate the damage the Tories have caused, not least by blunting the hated bedroom tax north of the border.

The best way to end child poverty is to get rid of the Tories.

Jungle drums

Ally McCoist regrets when the producers asked him to appear on the hit show.

The Rangers legend is having a rethink after his wife gave him a hard time.

But when he was in his pomp, the only way Super Ally would have ever ended up in the Jungle is if he was dragged into the famous Celtic Park by the Parkhead faithful.
