Climate change protest comes unstuck

The Sun and the Daily Telegraph are among the papers that today report on some sticky business at Downing Street last night.

A climate change protester invited to a reception at Number 10 tried to glue himself to the prime minister.

By any standards it was an underhand trick. The protester in question was 24-year-old student Dan Glass, of the aptly named Plane Stupid group.

Having been invited to Downing Street to receive an award for his environmental work he decided to hide five pouches of glue down his pants and pour it over his hand during Gordon Brown's speech.

He then grabbed the sleeve of the PM's jacket, telling him: "Do not worry this is a non-violent protest. I have actually just superglued myself to the buttons of the prime minister.

"We cannot shake away climate change like you can just shake away my arm."

The PM laughed and promptly moved on.

"He was just grinning about it. He didn't seem to take me seriously," said Glass, who was allowed to stay at the event for a further 40 minutes before trying to glue himself to the gates of Downing Street.

But the Plane Stupid campaigner soon came unstuck: "I didn't have much glue left by that point," he added.
