Climate change: Inspiring Bray children clean bottles and cans out of river

Sea scouts in Bray spent their kayacking and paddle boarding session last week cleaning Heineken and Guinness cans and bottles out of the Dargle River.

The inspiring group regularly pick up litter from the water and Clean Coasts have recently provided the crew with €700 to purchase important equipment.

The sea scouts were able to get radios, life jackets, safety throw bags and cleaning kits out of this donation.

Posting about their work in a Bray community group, the leader of the scouts said: "Pulled all of this from the Dargle River tonight while out paddle boarding and kayacking with my Sea Scouts.

"Do people not know what bins are for?"

Earlier this week, scientists released a grave new report on the disasters facing the globe if drastic measures aren't introduced to battle climate change.

The report was released by a United Nations panel and says "“human-induced climate change is already affecting many weather and climate extremes in every region across the globe."

Extreme sea level events are forecast to become much more frequent and fierce, leading to coastal flooding.

Hot weather events are also becoming more frequent and will continue to get more intense.

While a lot of the damage done is already irreversible, scientists say there is still time to avoid total catastrophe.

The use of fossil fuels will essentially need to be completely stopped over the next few decades to avoid the worst case scenario.
