Climate activists covered in fake blood block Glasgow streets during protest

Extinction Rebellion climate activists blocked a Glasgow street while sitting covered in fake blood.

The protesters, some of whom were sat in an inflatable dinghy, took up position in Finnieston Street. Many were smeared in fake blood and they also appeared to have an oil drum.

Dramatic photos showed the group hug in the street surrounded by police as they staged the stunt. They could also be seen holding up banners reading 'blah, blah while the Earth burns' and 'we are on the edge of the abyss'.

It comes on the official final day of the Cop26 summit in Glasgow.

Police Scotland closed the street and at 5.45pm tweeted: "Two protesters are locked on to a device as part of a protest at St Vincent Street, Glasgow.

"We are removing them for their own safety and the safety of the wider public."
