Cliftonville players only focused on football, insists Stephen Garrett

Stephen Garrett insists Cliftonville's players are only focused on football as they look to finish the season on a positive note.

Forward Garrett said Cliftonville's players had been aware of the legal process involving former striker Donnelly, but insisted their full focus was on performing on the pitch.

"Obviously we have been aware of what's going on, but I think as players we are there first and foremost to do a job on the pitch, and this is employment for us," he told this week's That's What I Call Football podcast .

"We can only focus on the task at hand. People are going to write and say things, but we are there to just play football and get results, and thankfully we have been able to do that recently."

In June 2016, Donnelly took a photograph of himself having sex with a 16-year-old girl who was wearing a Cliftonville shirt with his name and number on the back.

He shared the image with a friend and with a number of fellow players on the messaging service WhatsApp. It was later leaked on social media.

Donnelly, 23, of Ardilea Drive in Belfast, admitted the charge in November at Belfast Magistrates' Court .

He had been on bail pending the outcome of the appeal against his original sentence.

A judge hearing Donnelly's sentence appeal at Belfast County Court reduced his original jail term from four months to three on Tuesday morning.
