Cliftonville boss Paddy McLaughlin highlights fighting spirit of Reds ahead of play-off final

Cliftonville boss Paddy McLaughlin has hailed his players' battling qualities as they prepare for a winner-takes-all showdown with Larne.

The Reds travel to Inver Park on Saturday evening for a massive Europa Conference League play-off final.

Whoever wins will qualify for Europe next season, and guarantee at least £215,000 in prizemoney.

McLaughlin has had to nurse several of his big stars through injuries during the course of the season, including talisman Joe Gormley who recently returned following a four-month absence.

But the Solitude chief says the attitude of the whole squad deserves merit as they prepare for their season finale on Saturday.

“We’ve had players who’ve put their bodies on the line time and again for us over the last number of months,” he told the club's website.

“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – I’ve never seen such an horrendous injury list at one club in the same season, it’s barely believable. But then you see players busting a gut to get back and help their team-mates out and give everything for the badge.

“That’s the attitude that has got us through some tough times this season and I know they’ll be fired up to go out and perform against Larne. It’s the last match of a really long campaign and we want to go out on a high.”
