Cliftonville announce contract extension for Thomas Maguire

Cliftonville have announced a new contract extension for striker Thomas Maguire.

Maguire made his debut in August 2018 and has gone on to make 52 appearances for the Reds.

The 20-year-old has impressed this season, notably scoring in the club's Co Antrim Shield final comeback win against Ballymena United.

“We’re very happy to be extending Thomas’ stay at Solitude,” chairman Gerard Lawlor told Cliftonville's website.

“He’s an up-and-coming young player who has worked very hard on his game since arriving at the club and I’m sure our supporters are looking forward to seeing him kick on in a red shirt.”

Speaking earlier this year, Cliftonville boss Paddy McLaughlin said of Maguire: “He has all the potential to be one of the top players in the division for a long time.

"We're delighted to have him but we understand he's young and he is learning the ropes.

"It's a tough, physical league. Opponents try and intimidate and harass strikers. When he learns to look after himself on the pitch, he's going to be a star.

"We know Thomas has it in his locker, and when he fulfils his potential he will be one of the best strikers in the division.”
