Clifton Suspension Bridge to close for five days

The Clifton Suspension Bridge is going to be closed for five days running to allow a large amount of maintenance work to take place.

The bridge will be closed to cars and cyclists, but not pedestrians, from June 10-14.

Bridge authorities said they intend to close the bridge to traffic for six hours during the day, avoiding the peak rush hour times at the start and end of every day.

The bridge is scheduled to close from 9.30am to 3.30pm, with a diversion route signposted using Bridge Valley Road, Brunel Way and the A369 at Rownham Hill back up to Leigh Woods and Ashton Court.

The closure will see the removal of the temporary toll houses which have been in place for the past few months.

They were put in place to replace the old toll houses that were demolished at the start of this year, with new ones since built.

And the closure will also give the bridge authorities the opportunity to conduct engineering inspections on the main chains, and install the cabling for the new toll houses that have recently been built.
