Clifton Suspension Bridge will be closed for a day next month for repairs and maintenance. The work will take place on Tuesday, March 21 and the bridge will be closed to traffic and cyclists between 9.30am and 4.30pm.
Repairs will be carried out to the Leigh Woods weigh beams, the hangers and lighting works on the chains. There will be signs to a diversion route during these hours using the Bridge Valley Road, Brunel Way and A369, Rownham Hill.
Bridge master, Trish Johnson said: “We have some maintenance to carry out on one of our weigh beams which monitors the weight of vehicles crossing the bridge, so it is very important. We will also take advantage of the closure to replace some bolts on the hangers and to carry out lighting works.”

She said that during the closure, pedestrians will still be able to use the bridge via one of the footways, but that there will be no access for vehicles and cycling will be prohibited.
“Cyclists may dismount and walk across the bridge, but due to the narrow footways, they are requested to avoid using the bridge if possible,” she said. The Clifton Suspension Bridge Trust apologised for any inconvenience that the closure may cause.
Ms Johnson said: “We hope that by keeping the road open during the morning and evening busier period, we will minimise the disruption caused.”
