1) Cliff Richard’s Pro Celebrity Tennis, from the Brighton Centre in 1987.
2) What’s your greatest sporting achievement? A Sunday league hat-trick? A quick half-century for your village club? That time you bravely stopped a 6ft 6in No8 in his tracks? Or are we underestimating you, and you’ve achieved something of real note in your athletic life? You didn’t punch a shark in the face though, did you?Imagine being poor Mick Fanning’s mother watching on TV, though.
3) Fanning has competition: some golfers go toe-to-toe with alligators! The rest of the video is actually sort of sweet. Certainly more so than this encounter between Yorkshire’s Jacques Rudolph and a pigeon. If you need cheering up after that, Rob Quiney v seagull has a much happier ending.
4) Diego Maradona scoring like Diego Maradona in some 1992 Soccer Sixes v Fun House with Pat Sharp hybrid.
5) The 2015 Rugby Championship got under way last week, so why not relive some of the thrills and spills of the southern hemisphere’s premier union tournament? If you really want to treat yourself, there’s the classic 2000 Tri-Nations opener between Australia and New Zealand in full; one of the best matches you’ll ever see there. This repeat fixture the following year was about as good. If you’re shorter on time, then there’s plenty to enjoy in bite-sized portions. Christian Cullen tearing the Australian defence a new one in 1998, for example. Or there’s Carlos Spencer, a player so entertaining you could dedicate an entire video streaming website to him. How about him showing off shamelessly for New Zealand, Auckland Blues and Northampton Saints? Finally there’s the man they called Nobody, because he’s perfect, John Eales, living up to that reputation with nerves of steel 15 whole years ago.
6) ITV’s Euro 92 montage, featuring Big Ron sunbathing by a satellite dish and plenty more.
Our favourites from last week’s blog
1) Without a doubt the most terrifying thing you’ll see this week: the carnage that results from some people riding bikes very very fast down a glacier. We’re warning you now, this isn’t an easy watch, so perhaps you’d prefer Jed Milton pulling off the world’s first ever successful BMX quadruple backflip.
2) Sergio Pizzorno, lead guitarist with lad rock giants Kasabian, joining a long list of those to have lobbed David Seaman at Soccer Aid 2012. He’s shown promise before, too.
3) Danny Williams is tougher than you. Perhaps more foolhardy, but definitely tougher.
4) With the Open done and dusted, here’s a reminder of why the pros on the PGA tour are different to us mere mortals. There’s also David Pelz, making Terry Wogan’s famous putt look like a tap-in. There’s also this lot, who give us hope that you don’t need to be genius to succeed.
5) Missing Andrea Pirlo already? Us too. Some Pirlo love here, here and here. Don’t say we’re not good to you.
6) Nine and a half hours or so of table tennis. “Is this the longest sports video on YouTube?” asked GrahamClayton below the line. No, is the answer, Graham. Here’s one that beats it by more than two hours. And if procrastination is your thing, you can spend another hour watching a documentary about Chris Waddle at Marseille, because why wouldn’t you?
