Clever way to get £37.50 worth of Nectar points for free

The Money Saving Expert website has come up with a genius way to score £37.50 of Sainsbury's Nectar points without it costing you a penny.

The points could then be used to buy your shopping - or redeemed for other Nectar loyalty point rewards.

The trick has been laid out in this week's edition of the MSE email - and it involved taking advantage of Sainsbury's credit card.

The site reads: "As we haven't featured a trick like this in a while, we thought we'd tell you about it now. However, as we always say, NEVER use such cards as an excuse to overspend or fill income gaps."

The trick works because you get 750 bonus Nectar points worth £3.75 for every £35 you spend at Sainsbury's in the first two months you have the card.

The bonus is capped at 7,500 points - meaning you could earn yourself an extra £37.50 in points just by shopping.

You can only earn 750 points maximum per shop, but the site has a workaround for that.

It reads: "You can split your shop to hit it quicker, eg, on a £120 spend, do it as £35, £35 and £50, so each gets 750 points (although you may be unpopular if there's a queue)."

The site says to only do this for normal shopping - not to spend just for the sake of running up the points, as that will defeat the object.

And it says to pay off your credit card bill in full each month to avoid any interest.

The card is for people who have had a Nectar card for at least six months and you need to be a new Sainsbury's Bank customer.
