Clever Lidl hack that gets you 6 items for free - but only in these stores

German discounter Lidl has a wave of new openings lined up for 2019, and shoppers can reap some huge benefits if they register their interest in good time.

The grocer, which has been on an expansion spree for the past year, has revealed how customers can get a shopping basket full of freebies when they pop into a newly opened store.

That's because each time a new branch opens, Lidl customers can pick up a Welcome Card that gives them access to a freebie every week for six weeks when you spend £20 or more.

The incentive, which is available from the fifth week of trading at each new store, gives shoppers items such as coffee and toilet roll, without spending a penny. Each item is worth on average around £2.

But, it's only great if you're planning a big weekly shop there anyway - if you are, it's a nice way to get something for nothing.

How to get a Lidl Welcome Card

If you want to get hold of a card, you can get in touch with Lidl once your new store opens to request one - see new branches in May below. Once these stores have opened, they'll pop up on the online page where you can request a card.

Alternatively, you can pop into the store within five weeks of opening to pick up your Welcome Card.

Freebies vary - it's mostly everyday household products such as washing powder and toilet roll. Food staples include tea, coffee and olive oil.

Previous offers have seen its Guylian-inspired J D Gross Belgian Seashells also up for grabs, for nothing.

Sadly, if you miss one or forget to claim it, you won't be able to catch up at a later date.

It's also worth noting that this isn't a loyalty card - so you won't be able to pick up points as you go along.
