Clever detector dog busts cash smugglers at Dublin Port

A clever detector dog busted a cash smuggling operation after discovering €80,000 at Dublin Port.

Canine Revenue officer, James, showed an interest in a particular vehicle travelling from Holyhead which was stopped and searched by authorities on Thursday.

Revenue offices seized €36,750 and £40,000 (€44,566.39) after discovering three packages containing the cash concealed underneath the bonnet of the vehicle.

A three month cash detention order was granted by Judge Bryna Smyth at Dublin District Court.

A Revenue spokesman said: “Today (06/09/2019) at Dublin District Court, Revenue Officers were granted a three month cash detention order by Judge Bryan Smyth.

“This followed the seizure yesterday (05/09/2019) of €36,750 Euro and £40,000 GBP in Dublin Port.

“Investigations are ongoing.

“This routine operation is part of Revenue's ongoing work targeting smuggling and shadow economy activity. If businesses, or members of the public have any information, they can contact Revenue in confidence on Confidential Phone Number 1800 295 295.”
