Cleveland signs right-hander Brad Peacock to minor league contract

Cleveland signed free agent right-hander Brad Peacock to a minor league contract, the club announced on Friday.

Peacock has been assigned to the Triple-A Columbus roster.

The signing comes as Cleveland remains in desperate need of starting pitching depth after a slew of injuries has mangled its rotation.

The latest injury came earlier this week, when Aaron Civale was placed on the 10-day injured list with a sprained right middle finger that is expected to keep him out for 4-5 weeks. In his place, Cleveland selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Justin Garza on Thursday.

Shane Bieber (shoulder) and Zach Plesac (finger) also each remain out with injuries.

Peacock, 33, has spent eight of his nine years playing for the Houston Astros. He's posted a career record of 34-30 with a 4.01 ERA in 181 games (83 starts).

Last season, Peacock was limited to just three relief appearances over 2 1/3 innings thanks to a pair of stints on the injured list due to right shoulder inflammation.
