Clevedon girl bags 12 top grades in GCSE exams

A 16-year-old novelist from Clevedon has amassed a staggering 12 GCSEs at the equivalent of A*.

Janey Little sat a total of 13 exams at Clevedon School, where she missed a clean sweep of grade 9s by just one mark.

Janey told Bristol Live she was “thrilled” with her results, which she was not expecting.

Her haul of top grades were awarded in history, maths, statistics, religious studies, biology, chemistry, physics, English language, English literature, music, computer science and Latin.

The grade 8, meanwhile, was given for her performance in business. Under the old system, that mark would be regarded as between an A* and an A.

Reflecting on the latter result, Janey said: “It was painful, definitely. I’m going to apply for a re-mark, just in case.”

Janey - who is working on a non-fiction book, having penned four unpublished novels - now hopes to take up to six A Levels, before going on to university.

She has her sights set on Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) at the University of Oxford, after which she would like to embark on a career in politics.

Janey’s father, Francis, told Bristol Live that he and his wife are very proud of their daughter.

Mr Little, an IT worker, said: “Myself and my wife find it absolutely incredible - it’s just amazing. There aren’t really any more words than that.”
