Clevedon food and drink festival is taking place this weekend

Clevedon is to get a new one day food and drink market - as the country starts to emerge from lockdown.

The new eat:Clevedon event will take place this Saturday (May 15) and is a new initiative for the seaside town.

The food market is the latest in a series events run by the award winning eat:Festivals which have run similar attractions across North Somerset.

The new market has been supported by Clevedon Business Improvement District (BID) and the council.

More than 30 stalls will set up in Queens Square while there will be a further 40 stalls in Alexandra Road and gardens.

A wide range of local and regional products will be on offer such as cheeses, artisan breads and street food and cider.

Covid secure measures will be in place at the event.

A spokesman for eat:Festivals said: “eat:Clevedon is a one day celebration of local and regional food and drink.

With the reopening of High Streets and the increase in vaccination levels we have seen an increase in interest in our outdoor markets.

“We have been successfully delivering events this spring with social distancing, rule of six and covid transmission mitigation in place.

“Queens Square and Alexandra Road offer two great venues for large outdoor markets with plenty of elbow room.

“There will be a wide choice of traditional farmers market favourites like breads, cheese and cider at both locations, plus street food, spirits and new flavours to be discovered.

“These two areas are the perfect backdrop to showcase the micro and small producers from across the region alongside the brilliant range of businesses native to Clevedon.”

The event will also see the presentation of some of the Class of 2021 Thatchers Bursary winners – brand new traders who are trading for the first time.

The spokesman added: “The whole market is in the open air and it will have measures in place to minimise the risk of COVID-19 transmission.

“We are asking visitors to keep local, plan their visit and abide by the latest government advice.

“New towns, like Clevedon, are really important to our aims.

"We focus on producers who are based within 30 miles of our host towns, so when we see applications coming in from small businesses based outside our area, we want to create routes to market for them close to where they are.”
