Clemson wasn't perfect against Virginia, but Tigers passed key test in win over Cavs

CLEMSON, S.C. _ No. 1 Clemson topped Virginia, 41-23, Saturday night at Death Valley in a rematch of last year's ACC title game.

The Tigers controlled the game for much of the night but still have plenty to work on before No. 8 Miami comes to town next week.

The Tigers surrendered 417 yards of offense and allowed the Cavaliers to convert 4 of 5 fourth-down tries. Clemson also committed eight penalties for 65 yards, compared to one penalty for Virginia.

Still, it was plenty enough to get the win as Trevor Lawrence was 25-of-38 passing for 329 yards, with three touchdowns. Two of his touchdown passes went to Amari Rodgers.
