What’s Going To Happen
It’s Clemson’s week off before going into the finishing kick of more weeks off.
The Tigers woke up from the close call against North Carolina to obliterate Florida State, Louisville and Boston College by a total of 149 to 31. Every other game has been a blowout by 14 points or more, and with six of the eight wins by 31 or more.
Now the defending national champ has to be able to handle the funky Wofford offense.
There’s no passing game to worry about – the Terriers hit a few plays here and there for about 100 yards a game – but the ground attack is the second-best in the FCS world, the team can move the chains, and there’s just enough of a curveball being thrown to make the Tiger defensive front have to try a wee bit.
The Clemson athleticism at linebacker should negate the Wofford plays on the outside, and it shouldn’t take too many drives from Trevor Lawrence and the passing game to get this over with by the middle of the second quarter, but no one wants to deal with the Wofford blocking scheme and this type of team at this point in the season.
The goal is to get the Tiger starters out as soon as possible. That will happen midway through the third. Clemson has had this type of game before two years ago, and whacked Citadel 61-3.
