Clemson (4-0) vs. North Carolina (2-2) Game Preview
Why North Carolina Will Win
The passing game is working.
There are flaws across the board, and the team has walked a tightrope at times in close games – beating South Carolina and Miami and losing to Wake Forest and Appalachian State. One of the constants has been the freshman, with Sam Howell hitting 64% of his throws with two touchdown passes or more in every game.
The two picks last week were his first of the season, but that appears to be just a blip. He’s a baller who’ll take plenty of chances, but he’s not smart with his decisions.
On the other side, Trevor Lawrence has been fine, but he hasn’t been as accurate as Howell and has had a slight interception issue with five in his first three games before last week’s win over Charlotte. North Carolina has to come up with a few big turnovers and capitalize on all of them to keep this alive.
Why Clemson Will Win
Obviously Trevor Lawrence is a bum with his five interceptions and just seven touchdown passes, but maybe the rest of the team can carry him …
Lawerence is obviously doing just fine.
Yeah, he’s throwing a few interceptions partially because he doesn’t have to be ultra-careful. He’s able to let it rip on a team with everything else working, and now the big plays are starting to kick in more and more over the last two games.
It helps when the defense is able to dominate games and allow fewer than 250 yards per outing. The line rebuilt in a hurry – surprise, surprise – and while it’s not the killer the 2018 version was, it’s stuffing everything against the run and doing enough to help out a secondary that’s not allowing a thing down the field.
Yeah, Howell should throw for at least 200 yards, but it’s going to take something historic to keep up with the Tiger team that’s going through the motions and is still winning in blowouts.

What’s Going To Happen
Don’t be surprised if North Carolina makes this interesting for more than a half.
At home, they’re going to be able to handle the national championship-level talent as they push the Tigers and make social media go off … and then Clemson will go Clemson.
The Tigers will sharpen up midway through the third quarter and explode to pull away to end the drama with a breathtaking display of home runs.
