Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence furiously shoves opponent during intramural basketball game

The Clemson Tigers are coming off a CFP national championship and cold fast-food feast at the White House, but the football team is pursuing another (equally important) title … in intramural basketball.

Quarterback Trevor Lawrence takes that very seriously.

Video circulated on Twitter Monday from the football team’s intramural basketball game as the scene turned chippy when Lawrence shoved a player to the floor.

The Clemson quarterback had just missed a shot and ran into a screen as he tried to pick up the ballhandler defensively in the backcourt. When Lawrence hit the screen (which wasn’t exactly a hard screen), he shoved the player twice.

I can understand the reaction — it was basically the most contact Lawrence had taken all season, and the screen was 75 feet from the basket.

The intramural referees intervened before the situation could escalate.

But given how the Chiefs reacted to Patrick Mahomes playing pickup basketball, it’s somewhat surprising that Dabo Swinney allows the football team to play intramural basketball. The last thing Clemson needs is for Lawrence to get injured on a screen … or for a fight to break out.

Lawrence’s team won, 43-34.
