Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence declares for the 2021 NFL Draft

Clemson quarterback and college football’s top prospect, Trevor Lawrence, said goodbye to his collegiate career Wednesday. As a result, he’ll be entering the 2021 NFL Draft after the Jacksonville Jaguars acquired the No. 1 overall pick.

Lawrence, 21, is widely regarded as the best quarterback prospect to enter the draft since Andrew Luck. For a Jags team that has struggled to find a franchise quarterback since Mark Brunell, the expected announcement is a huge one that could get them on the right path.

This week, owner Shad Khan stressed the importance of drafting a franchise quarterback, so it certainly appears his eyes have been set on Lawrence. Now, it will be a matter of naming a general manager and coach to build around him and guide him through the NFL.

“I think obviously developing a young quarterback, we’ve been very unsuccessful at that. [The] last eight years, we haven’t had a franchise quarterback, so I think that is very, very important,” Khan said Monday.

Lawrence will exit his career at Clemson as a three-time Atlantic Coast Conference champion, a National Champion, and a National Championship MVP. In terms of statistics, he’ll exit Clemson with a 67% completion rate (758-of-1,138) for 10,098 passing yards, 90 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions.
