Clemson defensive starter could miss national championship game with injury

NEW ORLEANS _ Clemson could be down a defensive starter in Monday's national championship game.

Defensive tackle Nyles Pinckney could miss the game with an injury, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney announced during a news conference on Sunday. Swinney is "hopeful" Pinckney will be able to suit up but is not sure.

"If he plays it'll be limited," Swinney said.

Pinckney suffered an ankle injury against Ohio State. He did not dress out for Saturday's open practice.

The redshirt junior from Beaufort was a third-team All-ACC selection this season. He has started 13 of 14 games and has 27 tackles, four tackles for loss and a sack. If Pinckney is unable to play, redshirt sophomore Jordan Williams is expected to get the start.
