Clemson CB A.J. Terrell rising up draft board, could he be a surprise pick at No. 12?

With less than a week to go until the 2020 NFL Draft, one of the hottest names rising up draft boards is Clemson cornerback A.J. Terrell. After a solid junior season, Terrell dominated at the NFL Combine, testing in the 86th percentile among cornerbacks.

According to The Athletic’s Dane Brugler, there are several teams in the top-16 that are targeting Terrell in the first round. One of those teams could be the Raiders, who selected another Clemson cornerback in the second round of last year’s draft in Trayvon Mullen.

In a recent mock draft By Chad Reuter of NFL.com, Terrell was the pick to the Raiders at No. 19 and that is suddenly becoming a more common selection.

But what if the Raiders are dead-set on drafting a cornerback at No. 12? There is certainly a possibility that both Jeffrey Okudah and CJ Henderson are gone at that point. Would Terrell be the next best option? Is it possible two more cornerbacks could come off the board between picks No. 12 and No. 19?

Terrell’s athleticism, production and big-game experience could be awfully enticing to the Raiders. While it seems like a bit of a reach, don’t be surprised if Terrell goes much higher than anyone anticipates. And given how much the Raiders love Clemson players, keep an eye out for Terrell as a possible sleeper.
