Cleetus McFarland (aka Garrett Mitchell) will be back behind the wheel of a NASCAR Craftsman Truck at Michigan International Speedway on June 6.
Cleetus will drive the No. 4 Niece Motorsports Chevrolet. It will be his second appearance in the Truck Series, after making his debut in the same truck at Daytona. Unfortunately, his debut only lasted six laps, losing control at the exit of Turn 4 and crashing into the inside wall. He finished 37th -- last.
However, Cleetus continues to make progress behind the wheel of a stock car, and has since signed a deal with Richard Childress Racing, making his NASCAR O'Reilly debut at Rockingham and finishing 32nd. He had hoped to gain approval to race at Talladega soon after, but NASCAR refused his request, hoping to see more experience out of him first. He also plans to run the NASCAR O'Reilly race at Nashville this weekend.
Earlier this year, Cleetus earned a top five finish in the ARCA East Race at Rockingham, and nearly won the ARCA Menards Series race at Talladega, finishing second in a dramatic finish. Andy Jankowiak passed Cleetus in a full-contact battle to the checkered flag, earning his first win instead.
Alone with one start each in the O'Reilly and Truck Series, Cleetus now has eight races under his belt between the main ARCA division and ARCA East.
