Clearing the way

A meandering road appears on a mountain Thursday as snow removal progresses, ahead of the spring tourist season, on an about-23 kilometer section of the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route through the Northern Japan Alps in Toyama and Nagano prefectures. The route is scheduled to fully open on April 15. It snowed heavily this winter, so the snow-walled "valley" on the route is expected to be higher than the 17 meters seen in an average year.
