Bangkok's pavements are notoriously filthy, bumpy and riddled with obstacles such as potholes, food carts and unused phone booths. It is hard to imagine walking along the city's streets with ease.
This is something pedestrians have been complaining about for several decades -- but nothing changed until Ratchadamri Road led the way in becoming the very first road in the capital with pavements friendly enough for people in a wheelchair to use easily.
The Bangkok Post recently spoke to Santi Opaspakornkij, a 50-year-old freelance financial consultant who is a key advocate in the campaign to make the city's pavements easier to travel along. Mr Santi is currently leading the drive to improve pavements along Asok Road.
