Cleaning pros share 'wonder' tip for drying wet washing without tumble dryer

Drying freshly washed clothes without a tumble dryer can be a nuisance. While a washing line might be an option during warmer months, it proves little help during darker, colder days. Thankfully, Mrs Hinch fans have shared a tip that is effective all year round - and works out "cheaper" than using a tumble dryer, as The Express reports.

The advice, which is said to "work wonders", came to light on a Facebook group for fans of Mrs Hinch, or Sophie Hinchliffe, to use the cleaning guru's real name. Inspired by the cleaning enthusiast, fans use Cleaning Tips and Tricks to share their best advice, and it was there that someone posed the question: "How do people get washing dry without a tumble dryer in the winter?!"

"We have so much washing but getting it dry is such a problem," they added, expanding on the problem.

Fortunately, the post received hundreds of comments with suggestions on how best to dry clothes - and one simple solution was a standout.

Scores of cleaning fans recommend purchasing a dehumidifier, as a "fast" yet cost-effective solution. Many people even claimed the option worked better than when using a tumble dryer.

One woman said: "I use a normal clothes airer with a dehumidifier, it dries faster than my tumble dryer."

"I do have a tumble dryer but dehumidifier is a lot cheaper," added another person.

However, a different commenter pointed out humidifiers can sometimes prove expensive, but they still stand by the method.

“Expensive but life-changing for washing, mould, condensation and heating bills," they explained.

People also suggested humidifiers to purchase, with a range of recommendations shared, including an £128.99 option from Screwfix and a cheaper £34.99 option from Home Bargains.

As the bargain-hunter pointed out, humidifiers are also helpful because they can be used to dry items that shouldn't go in the tumble.

Other tips shared by commenters including purchasing a heated clothes stand, and drying clothes in the hottest room in the house, near radiators.
