Cleaning hack restores stained pots and pans to look like new for just £2.75

Cooking pots and pans aren't cheap which means we're usually reluctant to splash out on a new set.

It often results in us putting up with stained cooking equipment for far too long, convincing ourselves they've got a few more years of use in them yet.

If your pots and pans are looking a little worse for wear, there may still be hope yet in restoring them - and for just £2.75.

When no amount of scrubbing with washing up liquid can shift stubborn burnt-on scorch marks, a solution called Barkeeper's Friend Stain Remover has been hailed a "miracle product" by cleaning fans.

The product claims to be "famous for removing rust, metal tarnish, mineral deposits, and stains from most hard surfaces."

Daily Star reporter Sophie Foster gave it a try herself, and began by getting the stained pans as clean as possible using boiling water, bicarb of soda and a tough brush.

Warning the product shouldn't be used on pans with non-stick or coatings as it can strip the layer off, she says for the inside she simply put some of the powder onto a wet cloth and worked out the stains.

For the tougher marks on the outer surfaces, it was more effective to create a paste from the powder with splash of water, leaving it to work its magic for about five minutes before buffing out the stains.

When it's all finished, give it a really good scrub and you can even chuck it in the dishwasher afterwards for good measure.

The before and after results speak for themselves and Sophie wrote: "So, did it work? Heck yes. Both methods were effective.

"Altogether it took about 20 minutes of elbow grease to get to a point I was happy with.

"Overall, my pan looks pride of place in my kitchen again."
