Cleaning fans share tips to remove permanent marker stains 'easily'

One distressed mum was inundated with cleaning advice after asking for help on how to remove permanent marker stains from a wall.

The woman's child had used a permanent marker to draw lines in the grouting between tiles in her bathroom, leaving her unable to wipe them off with traditional methods.

Despite the name, it actually is possible to remove permanent marker stains — and the mum took to the Cleaning tips and tricks Facebook group to ask others for some suggestions.

She wrote: "My son decided to use permanent marker to outline my tiles- any tricks to get this off?"

It wasn't long before more than 320 comments were left under the post, with cleaning fans in the group suggesting a range of methods to get rid of the stains.

One proposed: "Hairspray works awesome on permanent ink".

"Hair spray should bring that off," echoed a second.

"Spray hair spray it should lift it fine," a third agreed.

Meanwhile, another user suggested: "Nail polish remover usually works on permanent marker. Good luck"

A second said: "I got biro pen off leather sofa with nail polish remover on cotton bud?? Don’t know if would work?"

"Acetate or nail varnish works with permanent marker and white boards," stated a third.

One user suggested a substance that has become much more common since the start of the pandemic.

They wrote: "My little boy did this on the side of the bath.... Used hand sanitiser and rubbed with tissue and then soapy water after."

A second shared: "Hand sanitiser. We’d use it to clean the whiteboard at work when people had used permanent marker instead of a whiteboard marker."

"Hand sanitiser best thing to remove permanent marker," repeated a third.

Some users even had the interesting idea of going over the stain again with a pen, stating that it would then be easier to remove.

On stated: "Go over it with the same pen/marker as it re inks it and makes it wet and then use something strong like nail polish remover."

"Use whiteboard marker go over it and it will wipe off easy," revealed another.
