Cleaning fans share tip that ‘works wonders’ for drying wet washing without a tumble dryer

As temperatures plummet, it is understandably more difficult to find a dry, sunny day to stick the washing out on the line.

Thousands of households without tumble dryers are stuck with baskets full of wet laundry.

One social media user looking for a solution took to a Facebook group for fans of famous cleaning fanatic Sophie Hinchliffe, more commonly known as Mrs Hinch, who has gained a cult following of like-minded people looking for cleaning tips and tricks.

As reported by The Express, the post in Cleaning Tips and Tricks, read: "How do people get washing dry without a tumble dryer in the winter?!

"We have so much washing but getting it dry is such a problem!"

One person said: "Clothes on a clothes horse and then switch on a Dehumidifier works wonders."

Adding a dehumidifier to the room where you dry your clothes can work wonders, decreasing drying times and the added bonus of keeping your home damp and mould free.

Someone else replied: "Dehumidifier. We get bad condensation so have one anyway. I hang it in the utility room, shut the door and a load is dry in four hours. Do have a tumble dryer but dehumidifier is a lot cheaper."

Another wrote: "I just bought a dehumidifier and it’s great, money well spent."

A fourth person commented: "Dehumidifier - couldn't manage without it."

Another said: “I always struggled as there’s no room for a tumble dryer, put clothes on airer switch on dehumidifier - amazing."

People flooded in with recommendations, from expensive, heavy duty dehumidifier machines to cheap alternatives that work just as well at a “bargain price.”

One user recommended this heavy duty dehumidifier from Screwfix for €290.95 (Screwfix.ie)
A cheaper option is this dehumidifier from Buy It Direct for €45.95 (BuyItDirect.ie)

Other advice included purchasing a heated clothes airer, opening windows and positioning clothes airers near radiators and putting washing in the warmest room in the house.
