Cleaning fans share tip for drying wet washing without tumble dryer that 'works wonders'

When the days are warmer, we can hang our freshly washed clothes outside on the line to dry in the sunshine.

But when the temperature drops and it gets darker and colder, this doesn't work so well and if you don't have a tumble dryer, you might be left struggling to deal with your wet washing.

One social media user recently found themselves in this exact situation and turned to a Facebook group for fans of Sophie Hinchliffe, who became famous for sharing cleaning tips and tricks and is more commonly known as Mrs Hinch.

As reported by The Express, the post in Cleaning Tips and Tricks, read: "How do people get washing dry without a tumble dryer in the winter?!

Many people recommended buying a dehumidifier (stock photo) (Getty Images)

"We have so much washing but getting it dry is such a problem!"

The question was inundated with more than 280 responses, with one very common and simple solution cropping up time and time again.

They suggested purchasing a dehumidifier, with many claiming it was "amazing", "fast" and "cheaper" than using a tumble dryer.

One person said: "Clothes on a close horse and then switch on a Dehumidifier works wonders."

Another wrote: "I just bought a dehumidifier and it’s great, money well spent."

Someone else replied: "Dehumidifier. We get bad condensation so have one anyway. I hang it in the utility room, shut the door and a load is dry in four hours. Do have a tumble dryer but dehumidifier is a lot cheaper."

A fourth person commented: "Dehumidifier - couldn't manage without it."

"I bought a dehumidifier a few weeks ago. Someone recommend to me on one of the groups on here," added a different user.

"From Screwfix for £128.99 - amazing for drying clothes. I always struggled as there’s no room for a tumble dryer, put clothes on airer switch on dehumidifier - amazing."

Meanwhile, a sixth person had a slightly cheaper alternative to pricier dehumidifiers, which they had found in Home Bargains.

They added: "Just bought a DriBuddi. £34.99 home bargs still got a tumble dryer but use this for t-shirts and stuff which can’t be tumble dried."

Other advice included purchasing a heated clothes airer, opening windows and positioning clothes airers near radiators and putting washing in the warmest room in the house.
