Cleaning fans say 95p hack 'quickly dissolves black mould' in washing machines

Washing machines are one of the most-used appliances in any home, so it's important to give them a good clean from time to time.

Giving the outside a quick wipe down isn't always enough if you want to keep your clothes smelling as fresh and clean as possible. Over time, the inside of the machine can become full of dirt, grime and hair, and the moisture can lead to black mould forming on the seal.

This can make the machine and your clothes smell foul, which isn't what anyone wants when washing things. But fans of the cleaning influencer Mrs Hinch have shared one product for getting rid of the mould that works fast and costs less than one pound.

Posting on one of many Facebook groups inspired by Mrs Hinch, one new mum admitted she hadn't had the time to clean much since the arrival of her baby.

The Mirror reports that she anonymously posted: "Help. I've neglected our washing machine since becoming a mum and now it has a buildup of black on the seal that I can't seem to wipe off. Any suggestions, please? Thank you."

She also shared a picture alongside the post, which showed her washing machine covered with tiny black spots of mould all over its seal.

This wouldn't have been visible at a glance, which is why it's important to fully check the seal for any marks - including on its underside where the water drains away as it's likely to form here.

Cleaning fans soon came to her aid with their product recommendations, and there was one that seemed to be more popular than the rest.

The most common suggestion was a simple spray product that costs just just £1 from the Poundshop, and one social media user claimed they picked one up for just 95p in Wilko.

One wrote: "Astonish Mould and Mildew spray. If you use this you'll find that the mould wipes straight off."

"This stuff is really good", someone agreed. "Recently I used it in the detergent drawer and where the water comes out. It’s a game changer for removing black buildup and only costs 95p from Wilkos."

Another praised: "Astonish Mould and Mildew. Spray it on and leave it for a few minutes and it'll all come off."
