Cleaning fans rave about 'brilliant' £1.46 product that gets rid of white stains on hob

If you have a dark-coloured stove top and live in a hard water area, then you'll probably know the pain of having your pots and pans leave white marks on the shiny black surface of your hob.

The stains occur when you take a freshly-washed pan that is still wet on the bottom and put it on the hob, as the heat from the hob evaporates the water and leaves behind the mineral deposits present in hard water - similar to the limescale build-up you might see in your kettle.

And while the white marks can be unsightly, they don't have to be a headache to remove, as fans of cleaning guru Mrs Hinch have said there's a £1.46 product that works wonders on unwanted stains.

The topic was mentioned in a recent post in the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips group on Facebook when one woman asked: "How do people clean their hobs? I've tried a few things but it's not budging."

And before long she was inundated with suggestions from other cleaning fans, with many of them suggesting just one product - a bottle of Hob Brite.

One person wrote: "Hob Brite every time."

While another added: "Hob Brite! Don't know how it works but it's like magic."

And a third said: "Hob Brite and a hob scraper brought mine up like brand new and it was like yours. Took a few goes and a bit of elbow grease."

Hob Brite is available in several shops up and down the UK, with ASDA stocking a 300ml bottle for £1.46, Ocado having it on their website at £1.65, and B&Q pricing theirs at £2.24, although it's currently reduced to £1.90. The product is also available in Tesco, but is currently out of stock online.

Other suggestions from commenters included using Pink Stuff paste, Astonish hob cleaner, while some hailed home remedies such as bicarbonate of soda, dishwasher tablets, and even tumble dryer sheets.

Someone said: "Rub a wet dishwasher tablet over [it and] leave a few minutes, then wipe off with the soft side of a damp scourer."

As another suggested: "Wet tumble dryer sheets and place them on your hob. Leave for a while and wipe off."
