Cleaning fans praise new 'Laundry Map' which shows the best time to hang out washing

Nothing quite beats the smell of laundry that has been air-dried on an outdoor washing line.

Although checking the forecast is one way to suss out whether it's worth taking your wet washing outdoors, a forecaster has now made it even easier to figure out if you should hang it up.

Met Desk, a global forecasting company based in the UK, has now launched a Laundry Drying index map. The map shows when households should hang out their clothes for the best drying results - and potentially when they must bring them in if rain is due.

A colour key, imposed as an image of clothes on a line, shows a deep orange for "great conditions", and a blue colour for "poor conditions". There are a range of colours in between.

The map has already delighted Twitter users with some pointing out its usefulness at a time of rising energy bills. Stephen Farrell said: "This is brilliant. If there was an app I'd install this on my phone immediately".

Meanwhile, one Twitter user wrote: "So glad I saw this yesterday, got two loads dried in 5 hours. Love this chart idea thank you."
