Some people vacuum their homes daily, others prefer to do it once a week or even once a month.
But how often should we actually be vacuuming the house - especially if we have pets or allergies?
A cleaning expert has shared her advice with The Mirror, explaining the rules when it comes to keeping the floors of your home clean.
Alice Lynch, who works for the Henry vacuum brand, said how often you should clean depends on the use of the room itself.
"In general, vacuuming once a week should be sufficient," she proclaimed. "However, those with allergies may benefit from vacuuming more often.

"Busier areas of the home such as the lounge and kitchen will most likely need to be done more regularly, sometimes multiple times a day depending on the activity and the weather."
And if you have cats or dogs at home, you'll also need to clean up after them more often too, thinking about areas other than the floor that may also need a good vacuum.
Alice continued: "Depending on how much your pet moults or the season, daily vacuuming may be necessary.
"During the transition from winter to summer, pet owners often experience excessive hair in the house, which if not dealt with quickly can get into The strangest of places such as the oven, food, and even people's mouths! Keep on top of it to stop it from spreading.
"Curtains and blinds tend to be particularly bad with cat hair and often it is on the inside, therefore not always visible. If it is not removed regularly then it can embed into the fabric and be very difficult to remove, so ensure you vacuum these thoroughly.
"Also don't forget to vacuum under furniture and beds as well as along windowsills, door and bed frames, skirting boards, sofas, and mattresses."
The expert went on to stress why it's so important to keep on top of your vacuuming, sharing her biggest tip of all.
"A well-maintained item will generally last longer and look better for longer if cared for properly, this applies to carpets, flooring, and upholstery," she said.
"Cleaning or vacuuming less regularly can make it feel like a bigger chore and take up a lot of time, so keeping on top of it often makes it feel more manageable. We recommend adopting a regular cleaning routine to include those areas that you tackle less often, such as carpet, floor, and upholstery cleaning which you can alternate to fit your schedule.
"Most importantly, you need to ensure you have the right tools with strong enough suction.
"Vacuuming too often can prematurely wear down carpets so we recommend finding the right balance for your household as any friction will contribute to flattening carpet pile."
Alice added: "To make it easier, have your cleaning supplies to hand and use a cordless vacuum which can easily be carried around the house due to its functionality and lightweight feel – also perfect for stairs, sofas, and all those hard-to-reach places."
