Cleaning expert's five-second bathroom hack promises 'no more hard water stains'

As much as we may long for a gorgeously relaxing bathroom in which to unwind in and enjoy a long soak in the tub, the reality is that this can be one of the toughest rooms in the home to keep clean and sparkling.

Stubborn hard water stains, also known as limescale, can very easily build up on your showerheads and faucets, due to an excess of minerals found in hard water, and can be pretty tricky to scrub away.

Fortunately, a savvy cleaning guru has now shared her go-to "five-second hack" for banishing hard water stains, and it couldn't be any easier to try for yourself.

In a TikTok video that has left cleaning fans amazed, homecare whizz Marilyn shared: "Life hack. Rub candle wax on your faucet. Water will bead right off. No more hard water stain".

Footage shows Marilyn, who goes by the username @mmarlo__5862, rubbing an ordinary candle over her tap, before rinsing the wax away, remarking that the hack "works great".

The surface of the newly cleaned tap appeared beautifully shiny and stain-free, leaving many of Marilyn's followers thoroughly impressed.

One inspired person commented: "Mind blown, I hate water stains."

Another applauded: "I swear we learn more on this app than we ever did in school."

A third person approved: "Life-changing this, doing it right away once I get home."

According to the home and garden website dengarden, candle wax is known to be a safe, non-toxic, and biodegradable alternative to toxic cleaners, and is effective for tackling hard water stains and mineral buildup.

All you'll need to do is rub the wax onto the faucet, shower head, or shower door using your finger, completely covering it with melted candle wax before letting it cool for approximately five minutes so as to give it time to solidify once more.

The waxy residue can then be washed away using warm water and soap, revealing a newly sparkling surface.

Best of all, this hack is also pretty thrifty. Shoppers can pick up a pack of six dinner candles for £3.50 from Tesco, adding up to 58p each.
