Cleaner charged over stealing elderly people's jewels

Queensland Police have charged a 44-year-old woman with stealing jewellery from elderly victims. (HANDOUT/QUEENSLAND POLICE)

A quick-thinking family member noticed a 40-year-old ring had gone missing from her elderly relative, prompting police to track down the thief.

Queensland Police have charged a 44-year-old woman after she allegedly stole several items of jewellery from elderly victims over several months earlier in 2025.

The woman was working as a cleaner and allegedly stole jewellery from clients in Carindale, Wellington Point and Thornlands, east of Brisbane, between April and June.

She then allegedly pawned the items at Capalaba and Victoria Point.

But when a family member noticed a ring that had been part of the household for more than four decades was missing, police were called in.

The stolen property was successfully tracked down and returned to its thankful owner.

The woman was charged with nine offences, including three counts each of stealing and forgery.

She will face Cleveland Magistrates Court on August 19.
