Clean-up crusaders take to the River Clyde during COP26 and remove 67 needles used by drug addicts

Paisley’s kayak crusaders removed 67 drug addicts’ needles from the River Clyde.

Paul Richardson and a team of two other kayakers were determined to make a point on plastic and waste during COP26.

They were banned from the water to points above the weir at Glasgow Green and downstream of Renfrew while the conference is ongoing.

Police told him specifically he would be locked up and his crafts seized if he entered the water anywhere near the COP26 zone at the SEC.

And Paul, who runs Calamity Kayaking, said: “I am delighted we were able to get onto the water and make our point.

“Myself, Jim and Gail got into the River Clyde at Glasgow Green.

“We filled 36 bags full and 67 needles used to inject heroin.

“We took our fight from the water, onto the riverbank and then to the protest at Glasgow Green itself.”

Their mission on Sunday was part of 45-year-old Paul’s ongoing crusade to clean the local waterways, most notably the White Cart Water.

The exclusion zone extends until November 16.

Great job, the team on the river (Paul Richardson)

No vessels including jet-skis, paddle boards and rafts are allowed to move or to moor on a four mile stretch of water.

The Ministry Defence Police are providing a 24-hour-a-day armed security operation on the river.
