Clay pigeon shooting club is allowed to stay open for the next five years

A shooting club has been given permission to stay in business for another five years.

The application by the Hardwick Park House Gun Club to continue operating was granted by Durham County Council's planning department.

Shooting has been allowed on the site in Horse Close Lane, Trimdon Village, since 2006, when a 12-month temporary permission was first applied for.

There have been three applications to extend this since then by various lengths, all of which have been approved.

The decision means existing clay pigeon shoots will be allowed to take place on 28 days a year, meaning they will continue on their normal schedule of Wednesdays between 6-8pm and Sundays 10am-1pm.

A letter of objection from a member of the public claimed there had been "at least 1 reported incident [sic]" at the club.

But a report for the county council's planning department said there had been "no recorded incidents in the last 12 months".
