Clay Matthews has already earned $500K in sack bonuses

Entering this offseason, Clay Matthews was coming off arguably the worst season of his career. The Packers made it clear they didn’t want him, releasing him after 10 years without even giving him the chance to take a pay cut.

The Rams scooped him up in free agency, paying him $9.25 million for two seasons. It was viewed as a good value and brought Matthews back to Southern California. The sunny and warm weather of L.A. has seemingly provided a spark for Matthews, as has playing alongside Aaron Donald.

He recorded his sixth sack of the season Thursday night, which is 2.5 more than he had all of last season with Green Bay.

As a result, he’s now earned $500,000 in incentives for his sack numbers, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

Matthews is off to a good start with the Rams, even if some of his sacks are the result of broken plays or Donald getting triple-teamed. The Rams will take sacks any way they can get them.
