Claudio Yacob linked with Nottingham Forest exit this summer

Midfielder Claudio Yacob has been linked with a move away from Nottingham Forest when the transfer window opens at the end of the season.

Yacob hasn’t featured for Martin O’Neill’s Reds since the 2-2 draw at West Brom in early February, leading to some suggestions his future lies away from the City Ground.

Olympiacos, who, like Forest, are owned by Evangelos Marinakis, are said to be monitoring his situation, according to reports in Greece.

His arrival, it’s claimed, could depend on the departure of Bibras Natkho, the Israeli midfielder who has struggled to make the impact the club hoped for after joining from CSKA Moscow last year.

Argentine Yacob arrived at Forest in September under former manager Aitor Karanka, making 11 starts and three appearances off the bench, having penned a deal until June 2020.

Despite his lack of minutes since the stalemate against his former club last month, O’Neill believes the 31-year-old does still have a part to play between now and the end of the season as Forest chase a place in the top six in the Championship.

“I have a lot of time for him. I have a lot of time for him as a person and as a footballer,” the Forest boss said.

“And he reminded me the other day that he is not as old as I thought he was.

“He is a terrific lad and a superb influence around the place as well. He is always very positive.

“He is naturally very disappointed that he has not been on the scene for a little while.

“I am not making any promises, but, for the run-in after the international break, I am hoping he will be back in the fold again.”
