Claudio Ranieri delivers blunt Newcastle United verdict after Watford claim late point

Newcastle's torrid Premier League run continues after Joao Pedro's late equaliser at St James' Park.

Speaking to HertsLive, Watford boss Claudio Ranieri believes his side did enough to ensure a share of the spoils, but their winless run under the Italian continues.

The result did neither side any favours with both locked in a relegation battle at the foot of the table.

Allan Saint-Maximin's second-half strike gave the Toon Army hope, but that was soon quashed after another disappointing display.

When asked if Watford deserved a point from St James' Park, the Ranieri said: "I think so, I think so. The first half the threat was only on the set-pieces, they touched the crossbar.

"And on our counter-attacks, we weren't so calm to try to do the best last pass, the assist. The second half, they created just the chance from our mistake.

"We created two, three great chances before scoring our goal. I'm very happy because my players combined well. Of course, I want more, I want more from my players because I know what they can do.

"I'm happy, but half and half, because I want more. The first half, we were waiting, I want more. They can do more.

"And I can understand after six matches in a row losing, maybe they were a little more anxious. But I hope this point could give to them more electricity, more confidence, more belief in ourselves."

He added: "I think we showed very good character. After we concede a goal, our reaction was much better.

"There were more good combinations between my players, and then we have to show this from the beginning."
