Claudio Marchisio Rangers move ruled out as Steven Gerrard admits he 'loves' Juventus legend

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has ruled out making a move for Juventus legend Claudio Marchisio.

The Italian is a free agent after leaving Zenit St Petersburg and reports in his homeland suggested that Gerrard wanted to take him to Ibrox.

But the Rangers manager laughed off the suggestions although he admitted he 'loves' Marchisio as a football.

The pair played against each other for both club and country and Marchisio was full of praise for Gerrard when he retired.

The 33-year-old won't be making the move to Glasgow to team up with his old rival though.

Asked about the speculation, he said: “It’s just another name that gets bandied about. He is a fantastic player - I played against him. I love the player but there is no truth in that.”

Gerrard already has a host of midfielders available to him with Steven Davis, Glen Kamara, Ryan Jack, Joe Aribo, Scott Arfield, Andy King and Greg Docherty all available while youngsters such as Jamie Barjonas are also an option.
