Claudia Winkleman's show Traitors called 'unhinging' but viewers are completely addicted

Claudia Winkleman has got everyone talking with her 'savage' new BBC reality show Traitors.

The psychological competition, which launched earlier this week, has viewers hooked as it follows 22 contestants as they head to a castle in the Scottish highlands to battle it out for £120,000.

The ultimate game of "deception, backstabbing and trust" has been branded "unhinging" by those watching at home, as the group have to discover who the 'Traitors' are.

Each night, the Traitors in the group 'murder' one more contestant and so it is a race against the clock for the Faithfuls to uncover who are the secret assassins betraying them or face elimination.

It’s utter chaos, there is no logic and it’s so dramatic", while another added: "Wowsers!!!! #Traitors on BBC has me shook! Herd mentality is a real thing. I’m questioning all my decisions in life. I need episode 4 IMMEDIATELY!"

"Traitors on BBC is unhinged and the contestants are proper normal people which is refreshing I'm totally addicted", a third chimed.

"Great opening episodes. Safe to say I'm addicted. Shows how some people are just followers. Faithful vs Traitor. Great tv, BBC," said another.

Viewers watched in shock on Wednesday as contestants wiped out the wrong person leaving all three traitors among their ranks.

Accounts supervisor Nicky, 45, from south Croydon, was almost unanimously voted off the BBC show following a tense debate about who to "banish" for the first time in the series.

Estate agent Amanda, 54, senior fundraiser Wilfred, 28, and business student Alyssa, 21, "murdered" their first contestant 23-year-old Masters graduate Aisha from Manchester.

After the "murdered" player was removed, all the contestants had to meet and decide to "banish" someone they suspect of being a traitor.

Nicky, who had joined the shows in the hope of winning to pay for a bionic hand which had been amputated following a car crash, was chosen by her fellow competitors.

Revealing whether she was a “traitor” of a “faithful”, she said: “I would just like to say you know what it was a hard decision to make, and it’s not been very pleasant sat here. However, you’re all wrong, I am a faithful.”

When the competition draws to a close, the few remaining players will share the prize pot if they are all faithful.

However, if there is still an undetected traitor among them, the traitor walks away with the entire amount.

Throughout the competition, they will build up the cash pot through a series of games.
