Claudia Winkleman fears viewers would be 'irritated' if she landed dream TV show

Strictly Come Dancing co-host Claudia Winkleman would love to present an art show on TV – but she fears people will be too “irritated” if she fronted another series.

The star, 49, has a passion for the subject after achieving a masters in history of art from Cambridge.

But Claudia worries she would annoy viewers if she went from being “the orange girl on Strictly” to educating an audience about famous painters.

When asked if she would like to host a show about art, she said: “I’m not good enough. I wanted to, but I don’t want to give too many versions of me.

“Art is something I own and I love it. It’s not that I don’t want to share it. I’m obsessed by it.

“But I can’t be the orange girl on Strictly, on Radio 2, and then go, ‘Guys, I would love to tell you about Rembrandt.’

“I think people would be irritated, ‘That woman is wanging on.’”

Claudia’s passion for art grew when her dad, retired publishing executive Barry Winkleman, used to take her to The National Gallery as a child.

“My dad used to take me to the National Gallery every weekend, but the only rule was we were only allowed to look at one painting. Only one,” she explained. “It made me thirsty and hungry for art.”

Claudia landed a work experience stint at a gallery but left after four days because it was too “slow”.

She has no worries about boredom while on Strictly and presenting a Saturday show on BBC Radio 2, but gets nervous.

Speaking on the People, Just People podcast, she said: “I come into Radio 2 so early. I’ve only just started, so I get scared. I get very nervous about Strictly. So I get there early and get the nerves out.

“I’m loving radio, but I get new-level scared.”
