Claudia Lawrence investigation: painstaking search continues at the North Shields home of murder suspect

Inch-by-inch officers continue their meticulous search at the Tyneside home of a Claudia Lawrence murder suspect

It has now been more than three days since officers swooped on the North Shields house, bringing the investigation into one of the UK’s most notorious unsolved crimes to our doorsteps.

The suspect was arrested on Tuesday.

And while detectives from North Yorkshire Police questioned him on suspicion of murder, forensics officers began searches at his York home and one in North Shields.

The suspect was released on bail on Wednesday but a painstaking search is continuing at the Tyneside home.

Officers, with their faces covered by masks, could be seen clearly focusing their search yesterday around the front windows of the well-maintained semi-detached property.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Forensic searches at relevant properties are expected to continue for a number of days.”
